Written by The Coen Brothers, the film stars a particularly desperate looking Matt Damon.
George Clooney's close working relationship with the Coens brother goes back a few years now. Since appearing in O Brother Where art thou in 2000, he went on to make three more films with the Oscar winning fraternity in the years that followed.
Now it seems that relationship is so close that Clooney has convinced them to let him sit in the director's chair for one of their scripts. Suburbicon , which had it's trailer come out today, was originally meant to helmed by Joel And Ethan but the A Lister managed to sway them.
Matt Damon plays a distressed father in this satire of middle american values that exposes reality of life behind the white picket fence. Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac also star.
According to Paramount pictures : "Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns… the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence. This is a tale of very flawed people making very bad choices.”

Clooney has a a good track record with films set in the 1950s. His Good Night and Good Luck was an excellent depiction of the rhetorical battle between the TV reporter Ed Murrow and spreader of communist paranoia Senator Joe McCarthy. Suburbicon appears to be be channeling some of those same hysteric fears we saw with McCarthyism.
