Watch: Trailer for new Napster documentary
Downloaded documentary tells the story of Napster....
Napster started in 1999 as a music sharing programme that facilitated people to come together and share music freely through the Internet. It changed the way we use computers, and began the revolution against major record labels and how we consume music.
The film titled Downloaded: The Digital Revolution focuses on Napster creators Sean Parker and Shawn Fanning, and their battle with the Recording Industry Association of America. Napster – who wanted to bring the music industry to it's knees – succeeded with over 60 million people illegally swapping music. The battle ended in the American Supreme Court with one of the largest corporate lawsuits in history.
The movie premiered at SXSW this year and has subsequently been picked up by VH1. There's no set date yet for the release of the documentary, but you can watch the trailer below for a preview of what to expect.
