Villagers released their new single, ‘So Simpatico,’ and its accompanying music video today (June 1).
The video clocks in at over seven minutes and features frontman Conor O’Brien dressed up as a sad clown, a performance from the band, and another happier clown.
The video for ‘So Simpatico’ was directed by Rosie Barrett. “'So Simpatico' is a journey of awakening and self-reflection, of a sad clown finding love within himself and sparking that zest for life that was lost some time ago,” she said.
In April, Villagers also shared 'The First Day' and its music video, directed by Daniel Brereton.

Speaking about 'So Simpatico', Villagers frontman Conor O’Brien said: “It’s a song of devotion; whether to a person, the self, or the art of being, a struggle for authenticity is at its core. We all jammed and recorded an early version with too many words and I took it home and simplified it until it was as pure an expression as possible. It’s a pop song about the essence of love.”
Villagers will release their fourth studio album Fever Dreams on August 20th, and physical copies of the record are currently available for pre-order.
“I had an urge to write something that was as generous to the listener as it was to myself. Sometimes the most delirious states can produce the most ecstatic, euphoric and escapist dreams,” said O’Brien about the formation of the album.
Villagers also have a tour of Ireland, Europe and the UK scheduled – which will begin on the 19th of August Banquet Records, Kingston. The band will tour the UK between August and October.
The Dublin-based group will play the Irish leg of the tour in November. Tickets are sold out for their shows in Kilkenny’s Set Theatre, Black Box in Galway and two nights in Vicar Street, Dublin. Tickets are still available for their shows in Cork’s Opera House, the Empire Music Hall in Belfast and a third show in Vicar Street in Dublin.
