Weezer references Guns N Roses' ‘Paradise City’ clip for their new music video ‘Feels Like Summer’
If you ever wondered what Weezer would look like as an 80’s hair metal band, then today is your lucky day.
The band has released a new video for their track, ‘Feels Like Summer’, which features all the members doing their best Guns N' Roses impersonations.
Well, almost all of them. Although the other members are rocking acid-wash denim and infamous top hats, the drummer, Pat Wilson, is simply doing an impersonation of himself. To his credit, he absolutely nails it.
The video draws heavily from the aesthetics of the original Guns N' Roses video for ‘Paradise City’ and even goes so far as to recreate the grainy video quality of the original.
Perhaps most humorous of all is the fact that this is one of those videos where the band is playing guitars that never actually appear in the audio. The song itself eschews the hard-riffing style that Weezer made its name on and instead aims for a more contemporary radio-friendly sound.
This is to be expected. You can hardly expect a successful band to write a song titled ‘Feels Like Summer’ and not do everything in its corporate power to make it sound like a modern summer anthem.
We will just have to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the live performance actually features the guitars they are so clearly brandishing in the video.
