Tickets for the hit musical's Dublin shows go on sale next week.
The acclaimed West End musical adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments is coming to Dublin, as part of the show's upcoming UK and Ireland Tour. As well as The Commitments' previously announced run in Belfast's Grand Opera House (February 20-25th, 2023), Irish fans can also catch the show at Dublin's Olympia Theatre, from February 7-19th, 2023.
The musical's UK and Ireland Tour will star Coronation Street actor Nigel Pivaro – who appeared in the soap between 1983 and 2012 as Terry Duckworth – performing the role of ‘Da’ in this all-new production of The Commitments.
“I'm delighted that The Commitments are coming back in 2022 & 2023," says Roddy Doyle. "And I'm particularly looking forward to seeing how Nigel Pivaro tackles the part of Jimmy Rabbitte's Da.”
“I am thrilled to be marking my return to the stage in this production of The Commitments," adds Nigel Pivaro. "It's an iconic story that resonates across the years, about people who though distant from the music's origins find communion and expression in the Motown style. A musical genre which was borne out of oppression and which the characters embrace as their own. The Motown Sound is as vibrant today as it was when it first burst through in the Sixties. I love it, but consistent with perfect casting as 'Da', I love Elvis a little bit more.”
Also joining the cast as 'Billy' is Ryan Kelly – a Dublin-based street busker. A video of Ryan dancing on Grafton Street – alongside The Scratch guitarist Jordan O'Leary – went viral in 2019. One of the 12 million people who viewed the clip was The Commitments’ director Caroline Jay Ranger, who subsequently called Ryan in for an audition.

Other casting includes James Killeen as Jimmy; Michael Mahony as Oustpan; Connor Litten as Dean; Stephen O’Riain as James; Jo Woollmer as Mickah; Hollie O’Donoghue as Imelda; James Deegan as Deco; and Mike Lloyd, Joshua Barton and Colm Gleeson make up the male ensemble.
In 2013, The Commitments musical garnered critical acclaim during its two-year residency at the Palace Theatre in London's West End – after which it hit the road for a major tour throughout 2016 and 2017.
Tickets for The Commitments at Dublin's Olympia Theatre (from €34.50 including booking fee) go on sale on Thursday, April 15, at 9am.
