From January 26 until February 21 2018, an extensive retrospective of live music photography entitled ‘What We Did In The Shadows,’ will be on show at The Bernard Shaw in Richmond St. South, Dublin.
Among the many photographs on show, striking images of international acts such as Grace Jones, Stormzy, Ennio Morricone, Alt-J, Green Day, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, St. Vincent, The Moonlandingz. Henry Rollins, The Darkness, Goldfrapp, The National, Future Islands, Mercury Rev and London Grammar will sit alongside such homegrown heroes as U2, AllTvvins, Girl Band, Sinead O’Connor, Villagers, James Vincent McMorrow, Otherkin and Whipping Boy.
This group of photographers who, for the best part of a decade, have been shooting gigs far and wide, present a collection of live music photographs under the banner of ‘What We Did In The Shadows’ - a title that nods to that barely lit gap between performer and audience where nothing else matters or even exists outside of those initial manic moments.
One of the featured photographers at the event will be Hot Press' Kathrin Baumbach, who has documented the Irish live music scene in pictures for the past three years. Other photographers featured will be Leah Carroll, Lucy Foster, Kieran Frost, Colm Kelly and James Murray.

While their photographs have been separately published here at Hot Press, or at RTÉ, Rolling Stone, State, The Irish Independent, The Sunday Times, Q Magazine, The Sunday Independent, The Sunday Business Post, Goldenplec or The Thin Air, this exhibition will showcase each photographer’s unique viewpoint in the hope that you will be brought back into that world of shadows and sound.
