Alongside the announcement, the indie-pop group shared a brand new single and video, 'Future'.
Indie songsmiths whenyoung have announced they will be releasing their highly anticipated debut album, Reasons to Dream, through Virgin EMI on the 24th May.
The band members first met as teenagers in Limerick. After playing in separate bands around the local scene for several years, they eventually all found themselves in London and the band that was to become whenyoung was formed, inspired by a shared taste in classic cinema and literature.
In the years since, they have graced festival stages everywhere from the Great Escape in Brighton to Reeperbahn in Germany, toured up and down the UK and Ireland, and supported Nick Cave when he played in Dublin. 2019 looks to be a promising year for whenyoung, with the release of their debut, and their first American shows, including several at South by South West.
Upcoming tours will soon find whenyoung back in Ireland, with a May 6th date at McHugh's in Belfast and a May 7th date at Whelan's in Dublin. Tickets cost €13.50 and are available now from Ticketmaster.
The culmination of years of playing and writing together, Reasons to Dream showcases Aoife Power(bass/vocals), Niall Burns (guitar) and Andrew Flood’s (Drums) collective ability to craft spikey yet melodic songs. Lyrics on the album dive into everything from love and insecurities, to pacificism and the gap between the haves and have-nots in Britain today.

The band explained that the album expresses their experience of moving from Limerick to London: “We've trundled through many jobs, flats, neighbourhoods and rehearsal rooms learning, practising, maturing and cultivating whatever it is we do along the way. We've gone from knowing nobody to making close friends, from finding it lonely to finding it welcoming.”
In anticipation of the album they’ve dropped a new single, titled ‘Future. The song tells the story of a close friend who sadly took their own life, while also striving to find a message of hope in the darkness.
The music video for ‘Future’ was directed by award winning short film maker Michael Baldwin and stars young actor Badger Skelton, who featured in Tom Beards critically acclaimed ‘Two for Joy.’ It takes inspiration from Wim Wenders’ New German Cinema classic, ‘Wings of Desire’, showing the trials of suburban youth in stark monochrome.

The band have previously released two other singles off Reasons to Dream: ‘Pretty Pure’ and ‘Never Let Go’ are both available to stream now.
