Dutch producer Reimer Eising has remained under the radar, but hopefully that’ll change with the release of his second album. Combining wonky electronic rhythms with soaring strings and sensuous woodwind doesn’t sound like an original approach – Squarepusher and Plaid have tried it – but these musical components were played live rather than being sampled.
It means that the piano-led ‘De Manke Das’ sounds more like a timelessly reflective piece by Prokofiev than the work of a young producer, while Eising’s shuffly beats and the evocative cello of ‘Now Find Another Moon’ are the soundtrack to walking through a forest on an autumn’s day with wet leaves underfoot. Surely he will be rewarded with greatness, or at least a statue in his hometown of Rotterdam sometime next century.
