Lowfinger operate on the basic principle of sensory overload. Think Cornelius mixed with The B-52's mixed with Huey Lewis mixed with snatches of Madchester Baggy and you arrive at something approximating their relentlessly processed vibe.
Almost by definition, this debut album makes for a hit and miss affair. While there are many moments of cutesy kitsch, catchy choruses and vibrant guitar, there are many more of frankly alarming tastelessness.
Unsurprisingly, the more straight-ahead tracks work best. On 'Cape of the Good Foot', sibling team Will and Sarah Matthews chill out their vocals beautifully to the strains of funky bass and deliberately clumsily plucked guitar. When they further rein in their formula on the upbeat 'Beach Finger', the track genuinely swings.
Still, all too often Lowfinger's great intros quickly descend into cacophonies of competing styles.
