Things are looking grim for Woodstock 50, the event meant to commemorate the anniversary of the iconic music festival in 1969.
Tonight, the Town of Vernon Planning Board – in charge of an otherwise sleepy town of less than 1,200 people – will decide whether or not to issue the permit allowing Woodstock 50 to take place at Vernon Downs.
Will the Town of Vernon allow peace, love & music to prevail so we can celebrate Woodstock50 with you? Upon permit approval we’ll announce our ticket on sale. Please share to show your support.☮️❤️🎵#Woodstock #Woodstock50 pic.twitter.com/Fft0RXCj1G — WOODSTOCK (@woodstockfest) July 11, 2019
Woodstock 50 has faced numerous setbacks including the loss of their financial partner back in April, cancellation rumours, the withdrawal of headliner The Black Keys due to a “scheduling conflict,” and the loss of their original site in Watkins Glen. Now, the event’s head organisers, Michael Lang and Greg Peck are frantically trying to secure a venue after numerous rejections.
In an interview with the Poughkeepsie Journal, Peck explained, "...If it doesn't work this year, it doesn't work this year. We've tried everything we can. We've done our best. We'll continue to do our best until we find out one way or the other whether it's going to happen."

Headliners for the event include The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Chance the Rapper, Jay-Z, Janelle Monae, Imagine Dragons, and more. However, tickets have yet to go on sale. According to a tweet from the official Woodstock 50 account, “Upon permit approval we’ll announce our ticket [sic] on sale.”
According to a statement on Woodstock 50’s website, “Our intention holds firm. To deliver a world-class, once-in-a-lifetime festival to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock. To honor a cultural icon that changed the way we think about music and togetherness… and will do so again.”
Below the statement sits a 30-day countdown, an ominous reminder of the impending deadline.
