Attention all folk music enthusiasts and music industry associates – we've got some more exciting details to share about Your Roots Are Showing, Ireland's folk conference, coming to Monaghan next month.
Running across five days and four nights in the Four Seasons Hotel and Leisure Club in Monaghan (January 22-26), the conference is a celebration of all things folk and roots.
You can look forward to a diverse range of programming, including panel discussions with industry professionals, music and folklore education, Irish language, music workshops, mentoring sessions, vendor exhibits, artist showcases, and storytelling. Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of international roots music and culture, learning from experts in the field and connecting with international musicians and industry professionals.
Some of the special guests and speakers at Your Roots Are Showing include Irish musicians and singer-songwriters like John Spillane, Emma Langford, Clare Sands, Liam Ó Maonlaí, and Moxie’s Darren Roche, as well as representatives from Glastonbury Festival, WOMEX World Music Expo, Philadelphia Folk Festival, English Folk Expo, Grand Ole Opry Archives, Rounder Records and more.

Many important issues currently facing the music industry will be discussed through a wide range of panel topics, including:
- ‘Fusing Multicultural Influence with Irish Tradition’
- 'The Importance of Archiving Your Work’
- ‘Managing Mental Health On Tour’
- ‘ Touring Overseas? International Visa and Tax Info’ (an issue which plagues countless European artists with travel aspirations to the USA)
Attendees can expect plenty of activity throughout the facilities into the late night hours. Scores of aspiring bands from around the world will showcase their talents each night after the daily programme winds down – including up-and-coming acts like I Draw Slow, The Jeremiahs, Shane Hennessy, Maz O'Connor, ALFI, Grainne Hunt and Latin Grammy winner Miguel Siso.
There will also be time and space for sessions and jamming collaborations throughout the conference week.
The inaugural event will finish up with a gala concert on Thursday, January 26, featuring a number of top artists – including Kíla, Old Sea Legs (The Eskies), as well world renowned banjo players: Grammy Award winner Ron Block (of Alison Krauss & Union Station), and Damien O’Kane – bringing their unique blend of folk, roots, and traditional music to the stage.
