Philip Glass to premiere new symphony on 80th birthday
Symphony No. 11 to debut on January 31 at Carnegie Hall
American composer Philip Glass is ringing in his 80th in a big way.
On January 31, Glass will celebrate his birthday by premiering a new symphony at New York's Carnegie Hall.
The Bruckner Orchestra Linz will perform Symphony No. 11 under the direction of Dennis Russell Davies. They will also performs Glass's Days and Nights in Rocinha and Ifé: Three Yorùbá Songs , which will be the latter piece's New York debut.
Glass composed the Ifé cycle for the vocalist Angelique Kidjo, who will perform at the event.
