A Sufi And A Killer
Anything goes in sublime world music-electro mashup
What happens when you take one ever-so-slightly mystical dude (that would be Gonjasufi) and give him three of the world’s hottest producers (Flying Lotus, the Gaslamp Killer and Mainframe) to work with? Well, if A Sufi And A Killer is anything to go by, you get something pretty magical. Fusing bangra, break-beats, trip hop, hip hop, funk and everything in between, Gonjasufi’s debut is as original and genre-defying as it is soulful, honest and mind-blowingly mental. Highlights include the funk punk MC5-aping ‘Susie Q’ and the mad as a box of rabid badgers ‘Sheep’ – but pretty much everything on the record is gold.
Key Track: ‘Sheep’’
