The Prince of Glasgow at his best.
“What the fuck’s happening Glasgow?” is the simple question Gerry Cinnamon asks his audience at the beginning of this mega live album. Aye, it’s a simple question alright, but the answer is far from easy.
The phenomenon that is Gerry Cinnamon performed two historic homecoming shows in summer 2022 at Glasgow’s Hampden Park, to 100,000 delirious fans. Oh, and by the way did you know he is an independent artist? Unsigned! AND, he usually performs alone, just him and his guitar. What the fuck is happening indeed.
Buy the record and find out. Listen to Cinnamon playing two sold-out-in-no-time shows at Scotland’s national stadium (the first Scot and independent artist to sell multiple nights at the venue) like he’s playing an old haunt on Sauchiehall Street, such is the intimacy and connection he achieves with his mammoth audience.
It’s good bang for your buck too, compiling as it does his two hit records – Erratic Cinematic and The Bonny – and all the bangers they contain, including ‘Sometimes’, ‘Belter’, ‘Dark Days’, ‘Sun Queen’, ‘Ghost’ and ‘Where We’re Going’. And if that’s not enough, you also get the previously unreleased ‘Sacred’; a stirring rendition of Billy Connolly’s ‘I Wish I Was in Glasgow’; and fan favourite ‘Discoland’. As the main man says himself when introducing ‘Fickle McSelfish’ – “What a beautiful time to be alive man, this is your time.”
Score: 8/10
Recommended song – ‘Discoland’
