Kildare’s Inni-K is a special talent. She maintains an admirable level of consistency on her sophomore effort, The Hare And The Line. Blending Irish trad with modern folk, the singer delivers 10 exquisite tunes (some in Irish), with her ethereal vocals as spellbinding as ever. There is a notable sense of mysticism to the record, which is filled with references to nature. The musical backing is suitably hypnotic, with slow guitar riffs underpinning Inni-K’s lilting vocals. A particular highlight is ‘Anaesthetic’, the central refrain of which paints a vivid picture: “Double-decker crawls around a corner in the Dublin afternoon rain/ Everything is busy”. There’s a similar lyrical flair on the title track, courtesy of lines like, “Turn my face toward a sound feint as a mountain stream... I know those notes that flow unquestioning, I’m listening”. With a voice that’s simultaneously soft and piercing, Inni-K creates music that’s beautifully haunting, and entirely unique.
