Founded around the start of the decade by an alumnus of the first wave of Irish punk, Bitzy Fitz, as both a means to keep the spirit of ‘77 alive and scratch a creative itch, the Lee Harveys have been feverishly prolific since. What’s more, they’ve sounded increasingly ferocious with each release. The latest opus finds the band fully embracing their heavier, more aggressive side, to exhilarating effect. Featuring six lean-yet-powerful tracks, Resistance Is Not Terrorism is a familiar-but-fun blast of old school filth and fury. Highlights include the Misfits-minded ‘New York’; the suitably explosive ‘Sonic Boom’; and the razorsharp ‘Words Are Weapons’. However, the standout number is the bullish ‘One Way In’, a pro-Palestinian/anti-war diatribe that’s deliciously gritty and boasts a fabulously catchy hook. Terrific stuff.
