2021 saw "that blonde girl", Sabrina Carpenter, thrust into the limelight of Olivia Rodrigo's 'Driver's License' drama. Now, the singer is back with by far her best release yet emails i can't send.
Titular track 'emails i can't send' opens the album, immediately diving into deeply personal topics - pronouncing there's no holding back on this record. This becomes obvious as the album moves on, with tracks like 'Tornado Warnings' and 'skinny dipping' featuring difficult personal themes and lyrics.
Undeniable disco-pop beats feature heavily, with 'Read Your Mind' and 'bet u wanna' harbouring a banging bass line and sparkling synth.
Rebuttal track pop-culture fanatics have been waiting for, 'because i liked a boy', affirms the catastrophic impact of public drama with lyrics: "I'm a homewrecker, I'm a slut/I got death threats filling up semi trucks." The pièce de résistance: "when everything went down we'd already broken up", indirectly identifies the 'Driver's License' drama without naming names. Featuring transportive electric guitar and distinct forlorn beats, this track is a must listen.
Softer tracks 'how many things' and 'decode' display Carpenter's stunning raw vocal with an element of The Chicks twang. Featuring exposed acoustic guitar and deep bass, 'decode' brings the album to a perfect close.

Beyond doubt, this 12-track LP has concreted Carpenter's place as a serious musician.
