David Holmes and friends deliver the goods on double album.
This transatlantic supergroup of sorts delve into their considerable bag of tricks on their third album, delivering a dark, delicious and often spellbinding 22 song-strong assault on the senses. Featuring composer/producer Keefus Ciancia; singer/songwriter Jade Vincent; and, of course, ever-inventive Belfast beatsmith David Holmes, the trio’s double album is crammed with noir-pop treats.
Best known for scoring the soundtrack of hit TV show Killing Eve, Holmes’ latest sudio outing is an immaculately assembled oddity, with plenty of substance to back up the obvious style. Vincent’s croon, which calls to mind fellow sonic adventurer Siouxsie Sioux, is effortlessly cool, and ‘Accountable’ in particular is a gem.
A dark hymn to the days when coffin-rock was king, a guesting Jarvis Cocker helps make it shine, while twisted nursery rhyme ‘WTC’ is full of snotty punk swagger. Admittedly, there’s a lot to digest on the 90-minute opus, but The Pink Album deserves your time.
Listen: ‘Accountable’
Score: 7/10
