Archive article of the week: Sean Fortune, the Hot Press report
The recent screening on both the BBC and RTE of a documentary about the sexual abuse carried out on young boys in Wexford by Father Sean Fortune reignited such fierce criticism of Bishop Brendan Comiskey's handling of the affair that he resigned last Easter Monday.
Sean Fortune, who committed suicide in 1999 shortly before he was due for trial on sexual abuse charges, had also previously been engaged in running media training courses of a decidedly suspect nature. In 1996, Hot Press went undercover to report on the activities of a self-styled media priest whose worst crimes were yet to come to the attention of the general public.
