In the run-up to the CAO deadline on February 1, we’re sharing some words of wisdom from students who have been through the process – and lived to tell the tale.
Robyn McCarthy, New Media, IADT
In Sixth Year, I was bombarded with endless information and advice from teachers and parents, which left me feeling overwhelmed at times.
However, I found consulting the CAO website to be extremely helpful. The easy and precise layout of the website made it easy for me to navigate and find the information I needed to make an informed decision when ordering my course preferences. I found my course in the ‘Course Search’ section, which provides you with an ordered list of courses from level 5 to 8, based on keywords you select.

Originally, I wanted to do History and Politics in UCD, but ultimately settled on New Media Studies as my number one preference. I’m really enjoying my course – it’s so varied, from exploring different media industries and to making short films and podcasts. It’s the perfect balance between practical and theory. I consider myself extremely lucky to be studying my first course preference and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
