Although arriving a little later than initially expected, Leaving Certificate results are just around the corner.
The countdown for Leaving Certificate results is officially on – with less than a month to go before students receive their first round offers.
The calculated grades are the first of their kind in the history of Ireland's education system, following to the postponement of the conventional written exam due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The calculated grades have been generated using a statistical process, which takes into consideration a student's expected performance, combined with the school's profiles of achievement in a subject, in line with national performance standards.
This week, following controversy in Scotland, where the government reversed the downgrading of over 120,000 calculated grades, a spokesperson for the Department of Education released a statement, reassuring Irish students that "the stated aim of the calculated grades system is that the results will be accurate, reliable and fair to all students."
“The process includes a national standardisation process, validation of the statistical model and quality assurance checks to ensure that this will be the case."
