"For now, we celebrate," the Dublin Is Dying group have stated in response to the news.
The 'Save The Cobblestone' campaign celebrates a major win today, following news that the appeal against Dublin City Council's decision to refuse planning permission for a controversial hotel around The Cobblestone has been withdrawn.
Following a prominent campaign last year, Dublin City Council refused planning permission for a nine-story hotel to be built around Tom Mulligan's traditional Irish music pub and venue in November. In January, however, it emerged that Marron Estates had appealed the decision – and were proposing a slightly scaled back, seven-story scheme over The Cobblestone.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Joe Costello shared a letter he received from An Bord Pleanála on Twitter earlier today, which stated that the "appeal has been withdrawn."
"Well done to all involved in the campaign," Costello remarked. "We need to protect & nurture our City's cultural spaces."

The campaign group Dublin Is Dying have also responded to the news.
"Planning application withdrawn by Marron Estates," they wrote on social media. "Intentions for future of site unknown. We hope owner will engage w/community & Mulligan family on more suitable design & that DCC will safeguard Cobblestone for all to enjoy. For now, we celebrate! Thanks to all who supported us!"
The official People Before Profit Twitter page also reacted positively to the decision – describing it as "a massive victory for people power!"
