U.S. President Elected says he’s not surprised by Streep’s Golden Globes speech and called the Oscar-winning actress "over-rated" on his Twitter account.
Donald Trump has reacted to Meryl Streep's speech about him at the Golden Globe Awards last night. Honored at the ceremony with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her career in the film industry, the actress celebrated diversity and criticized Republican anti-immigration speech.
In a telephone interview with The New York Times today morning, Trump said he had not seen the Globes ceremony but added that he was not surprise by the attack from "liberal movie people", as he called.
Streep never mentioned the President elected by name and received a huge applause from many actors at the Globes ceremony during her speech. "Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if we kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts".
She also criticized Trump for imitating a disabled journalist during a speech to supporters in the presidential campaign. "This instinct to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence".
To the New York Times, the Republican said he never intend to ridicule the reporter. "People keep telling me that I meant to mock the reporter's deficiency, as if Meryl Streep and the others could read my mind. I did not do that," he said.

The Golden Globes was the last major Hollywood event before the new president's inauguration on January 20.
Later Monday, in a series of tweets, Donald Trump called the actress "over-rated" and a "Hillary flunky who lost big".

Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him.......
