A round up of memorable moments from this year's Worthy Farm festival, featuring plenty of political call outs against the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v Wade on Friday.
The Glastonbury Festival took place over the weekend and resulted in some memorable moments: star-studded, controversial, and historical. Glastonbury celebrated its 50th anniversary during the height of Covid in 2020 when it hosted its events online. Artists like HAIM who performed that year returned for the 2022 extravaganza; thrilled to have an opportunity to play the festival live.
Originally known as the Pilton Pop, Folk & Blues Festival when the idea was conceived in 1970, it changed its name to Glastonbury the following year (and kept the name since). At that time, the festival was free to attend. A drastic difference from the ticket prices today where fans spend about £285 (€330) for admission. Since then, the festival has continually expanded, grown in acclaim, and built its name. In the past, Worthy Farm has hosted singers like The Smiths, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello.
This year the festival saw huge names like Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, Sigrid, Billie Eilish and Lorde - to name only a very few. Ireland also had a presence at the festival with acts like Orla Gartland, Fontaines D.C., Inhaler, and Just Mustard.
With so many music legends in once place, some moments from the weekend are too phenomenal to go unmentioned.
Olivia Rodrigo + Lily Allen

The 19-year-old SOUR sensation (who plays Fairview Park on Thursday) invited Lily Allen up to sing with her in a pointed message to the US Supreme Court. Allen's hit song 'Fuck You' from her 2009 album It's Not Me, It's You reprised as a duet with Rodrigo at the festival was an emotional response to Roe v. Wade being overturned. Rodrigo prefaced the collaboration with a dedication: "I'm devastated and terrified and so many women and so many girls are going to die because of this and I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day they truly don't give a s--- about freedom. This song goes out to the Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh". Allen joined in with "We hate you!" and a mischievous middle finger. The clip has already been viewed over a million times on YouTube.
Fontaines D.C. Blow The Crowd Away
The Grammy nominated Dublin post-punk outfit are festival regulars at this stage, and have earned a deserved reputation for visceral live sets. The boys in the not-so-better land didn't disappoint on Sunday, blasting the Other Stage with tracks from Dogrel, A Hero's Death and Skinty Fia. 'I Love You' was a special moment, however...

Kendrick Lamar Chants for Women's Rights

Wearing the same crown that graced the cover of his most recent studio album release, Lamar's performance was as theatrical as it was controversial. The crown, made of thorns and created custom by Tiffany and Co., recalls one of the most recognisable symbols of Christianity. Lamar ended his set with the chanted refrain of “they judge you, they judged Christ, godspeed for women’s rights” as a response to Roe v. Wade, a spine-tingling moment. The real time audience took up the chant in an electric finale that saw blood drip down his face.
Diana Ross Pulls In Huge Crowds (and Kylie Minogue)
Ross surprised the world with an unexpected Tame Impala collaboration resulting in the song 'Turn Up The Sunshine' for the new Minions movie this year. The 78-year-old singer graced the Pyramid Stage on Sunday afternoon of the festival for the Legends slot, offering renditions of Supremes hits and solo disco classics. 'Stop! In the Name of Love', 'Upside Down', 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' and 'I Will Survive' were on the setlist. While she drew a big crowd, some fans were disappointed in the quality of her set. Others were just excited to be in her presence. Fans spotted an eager Kylie Minogue, a fellow disco queen, enjoying Ross' show.

Paul McCartney Invites Dave Grohl On Stage
Dave Grohl of The Foo Fighters joined Paul McCartney on stage in his first public performance since the unexpected death of his band mate Taylor Hawkins. They performed two songs: 'I Saw Her Standing There' and 'Band On The Run'. In addition to this stirring collaboration, McCartney made history by being the oldest person to ever headline Glastonbury. The British icon also showed support for Ukraine by waving their flag during his set.
Chris Lowe: MIA

The Pet Shop Boys made their third appearance at a Glastonbury festival this year on The Other Stage. While fans loved the set, which included a backlog of Best Hits, the question on everyone's lips was "Where is Chris Lowe?". Lowe was stuck for the first 30 minutes of the set behind a malfunctioning screen. He continued to play the keyboard upstage till it could be resolved.
Did anyone see Pet Shop Boys last night at Glastonbury? Probably one the best concerts of the weekend. Certainly got the audience going!! Did wonder where Chris Lowe was? We saw them live at the Etihad in 2012 - Amazing then, amazing last night 😀😀 #Glastonbury2022 #PetShopBoys

Billie Eilish Makes History
The Grammy winner became Glastonbury’s youngest-ever solo headliner after she took to the Pyramid Stage on Friday, performing hits from her sophomore album Happier than Ever and debut When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? She described it as a "dark day" for America, with the political chaos clearly having an effect on her during her noir-pop performance.

Wolf Alice Make Their Set (Barely)
The English rockers were among the masses who struggled to make it to the festival due to travel issues, with major rail strikes taking place during the event and many flights being delayed or cancelled. The Mercury Prize-winning band told the crowd they were "emotional" after they nearly missed their set on the Pyramid Stage on Friday due to their flight from Los Angeles being cancelled last minute. Check out their performance of 'Last Man On Earth' below:

Kevin Abstract Forgets His Verse
The Texas-born rapper, who is a founding member of hip-hop band Brockhampton, was brought on stage by Easy Life during their afternoon set on the Pyramid Stage. However, according to attendees, his guest appearance left much to be desired as the rapper forgot his verse. Easy Life and Kevin Abstract have collaborated on two tracks on Easy Life’s soon-to-be-released album Maybe in Another Life: 'OTT', which also features New Zealand singer Benee, and 'Dear Miss Holloway', which was released in May.
@kevinabstract flew from america to easy lifes glastonbury set to forget his lyrics and shout ‘white people’ at the crowd😭
