The Scottish DJ shut down day one at Marlay Park with well known and well loved tunes.
When Calvin Harris was announced as the headline act for Longitude's Saturday night, immediate excitement could be felt online from ticket holders. The Scottish DJ has been doing the festival rounds, internationally, so it only made sense his name was added to the renowned hiphop/DJ-fueled festival.
As the sun sank lower into the sky, smoke emerged from the main stage of Marlay Park, signalling the takeover of the acclaimed producer. A lazer show opened the set, with a steady beat building to reveal the first track: 'Blame'. The musician certainly didn't hold back on the bass, as even across the sea of bodies, it could be felt in your chest all over the field.
Leading up to his first beat drop of the set, the DJ stretched his arms in the air while smoke and fire blazed just in front of him - almost Godlike in stature.

'I Need Your Love', the track released with his frequent collaborator, Ellie Goulding, came next. Despite the 2012 release date, the entire crowd sang along with vigour, denouncing the fact they were probably in primary school when it came out.
Each track played was much heavier than recorded, with house and techno heavy elements prevailing, explaining why Harris is renowned for his live shows.
Fistpumping his way through the set, the Scot moved through popular tunes like 'Outside', 'One Kiss', 'This Is What You Came For' and many more.
The DJ clearly knows the visual and audio cues for his sets perfectly, as his dance moves and beat drops perfectly coincide - also accompanied by a wild crowd. “Dublin let me hear you sing," the DJs voice rang out, a lot lower than I had expected, I must say. Harris took a moment to absorb the atmosphere, smiling while pacing behind the decks.
Every bit of encouragement he gives the crowd lapped up, making the audience oblige to his wishes of "get low and i wanna see you jump in the sky," as he blasted out 'Giants'.

'Bounce', 'Drinking from the Bottle', 'Feel So Close', and 'Summer' followed, with cuts in each track, allowing the crowd to fill in the blanks. Even the security guards danced along while keeping a watchful eye on the crowd, demonstrating how popular the DJ is with every age and type of person.
Beautiful changing visuals accompanied dry ice and a light show as the DJ moved on to 'We Found Love', teasing the crowd with a longer lead up to an incredible bass drop.
A surprising cover of 'Seven Nation Army' riled up the crowd, along with 'Be', the Greco (NYC) and Rowetta track. 'Promises' spread Sam Smith's smooth tones across Marlay Park, followed soon after by 'Sweet Nothing' the Florence Welsh feature.
As the night drew to a close and the sun set on a rocking Longitude, it can be said for sure that Calvin Harris doesn't disappoint - as can be seen by this performance and his recent widely acclaimed stint across Spain at Primavera Sound 2023.
