Lisa McInerney revisits the highs and lows of 2021...
Lisa McInerney,
Author
Hero of 2021?
Everyone employed in the Arts who kept going despite the cruel twists and turns in restrictions.
Villain of 2021?
Various antivax, anti-mask "voices". Including the creative ones. Absolute doses.
Best Personal Moment?
I published my third novel, The Rules of Revelation, the closer to my "Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll" trilogy. That was nice.
Best Movie or TV show?
I'm contrary, so rather than watching Succession like everyone else I've been rewatching Deadwood and loving it all over again.

Best record?
There were loads of great albums out this year from the likes of Django Django, Wyvern Lingo, Soda Blonde and Villagers. But honestly, if it wasn't for the sublimely ridiculous 'House Party' by Super Junior, I'd never have gotten through lockdown.
Best book?
Rob Doyle's persuasive and surprising Autobibliography sent me on a book shopping spree.
Best thing you saw online?
Reggie from the Blackrock Road complaining about being set upon by chatty people from Passage while he queued for his vaccination.
Your hope for next year?
A singsong and some dancing past midnight would be great.
What tickled your funny bone?
The Best Bits podcast, about the best scenes in movies that relate to hilariously specific themes. The presenters, Irish screenwriters Kevin and Will, crack me up.
