The ceasefire is expected to come into effect over the next few days
Hamas and Israel have reached a ceasefire deal, officials say.
Three US officials and a Hamas official have confirmed to Associated Press that a ceasefire deal has been reached, with one US official adding that it was expected to be implemented in the coming days.
The deal, according to Reuters, will see a pause in fighting in Gaza, the release of 33 hostages taken from Israel and the freeing of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Once in place, the ceasefire is also expected to allow a surge in the arrival of aid into Gaza, while Palestinian civilians will be permitted to return to the north of the territory.
Negotiations lasted months, with Qatar acting as of the key mediators in the process.

Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. The ensuing Israeli offensive in Gaza has lead to the deaths of 46,000 Palestinians, with millions becoming displaced as a result of the conflict.
