Sinead O'Connor has announced that she's converted to Islam and has changed her name to Shuhada’ Davitt.
"This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey," Sinead O'Connor declared last night under her new name. "All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’."
Just like when Sinead O'Connor was ordained a priest back in the 1990s by a fringe Catholic group, this announcement is already making international headlines. Everybody from the BBC to the New Zealand Herald is today covering Sinead's decision to become a Muslim.
Sinead changed her name last year to Magda Davitt because she wanted to be “free of parental curses”. She spells her new name with an apostrophe at the end, writing her full name as Shuhada' Davitt.
Sinead's sense of humour shines through on her new Twitter page under the name Magda Davitt. On it, her picture profile is an image of a Niki logo with the caption: Wear A Hijab. Just Do It.

Under her new name Shuhada’ Davitt, she took to Twitter a few hours ago to say, "Thank you so much to all my Muslim brothers and sisters who have been so kind as to welcome me to Ummah today on this page. You can’t begin to imagine how much your tenderness means to me."
Sinead O'Connor has also posted a video of herself singing an Islamic call to prayer. She tweeted: "Here is my 1st attempt at singing the Azan. I got some pronouncition wrong because emotions took me from my page... but there’ll be hundreds of others onstage to come ..."
And she promised, "Once I’ve practiced the Azan a hundred times I promise I’ll sing it much better than the one I’ve Posted."
Shuhada' Davitt also stated: "Sorry re all the mistakes in my Azan…1st attempt. When I've practised it 30 times I'm Gonna make the world stop turning."
