Both Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates, who are gearing up to take over Vincent Browne's late night TV3 current affairs show, believe that George Hook will be forced to hang up his microphone for good at Newstalk.
George Hook is currently on so-called gardening leave after Newstalk suspended his show while an investigation is carried out into his controversial rape comments - comments that genuinely deplored the entire nation.
But now both the former newspaper man turned broadcaster Matt Cooper and the former FG politician turned pundit Ivan Yates are both saying that they don't see anyway back from this controversy for their fallen colleague.
“My feeling is it’s the end of George’s Newstalk career," reckons Cooper, who presents Today FM’s Last Word.
"I have actually never behaved on radio in the way that George Hook regularly behaves on radio.
“I don’t think Ivan would say things in the way that George Hook says things — and I know that certainly I wouldn’t.”
While Ivan Yates told the Irish Sun this morning that he feels "sad" for Hook because "the sense I have is that it's the end of his career at Newstalk".
He added, “I utterly repudiate not only his remarks but his views and they were wholly inappropriate.“But that particular process is under way and I don’t want to prejudice that, either the management point of view or his point of view. And I’m sure that will come to a conclusion.
“My feeling is that it is kind of sad because the sense I have of it is that it’s the end of his career with Newstalk.”
