He once declared that Taylor Swift was "terrific". But in a childish jape that only makes him look even more pathetic, US President Donald Trump has bizarrely stated that he now likes her music "25 percent less" because she publicly backed two Democrat candidates!
"Marsha Blackburn (the Republican Senator) is doing a very good job in Tennessee. She's leading now, substantially, as she should. She's a tremendous woman. I am sure Taylor Swift does not know anything about her and let's say that I like Taylor's music 25% less now," stated Trump, who declared back in 2012 that Taylor Swift is "terrific".
Taylor Swift, usually known for maintaining an apolitical stance in public, decided last Sunday night to use her Instagram account to threw her support behind Democrat candidates Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for the US House.
During the 2016 election, Taylor Swift urged fans to vote, but wouldn't reveal how she would cast her own ballot, which, at the time, resulted in one of the top Google searches being “Who is Taylor Swift voting for?”
“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions. I feel very differently about that now," Taylor stated on Sunday.

"I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG.
“I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.”
Whatever about free speech, other prominent Republic Party members are now vocally criticising Taylor for endorsing the two Democrats. The National Republican Senatorial Committee commented, “If you haven’t heard, multimillionaire pop star Taylor Swift came down from her ivory tower to tell hardworking Tennesseans to vote for Phil Bredesen."
While the president of conservative group Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk tweeted: “You just endorsed a Democrat in the Tennessee Senate race with a ridiculous statement saying Marsha Blackburn, a woman, is against women. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.”
But others have been quick to jump to Taylor's defence. Spinal Tap director Rob Reiner tweeted: “A big shout out to Taylor Swift for speaking out. You can single handedly change this country. Impress on your fans how critical and powerful their voices are. If you get them to the polls on Nov 6, everything you care about will be protected.”
Phil Bredesen thanked the pop star, tweeting: “I’m honored to have your support and that of so many Tennesseans who are ready to put aside the partisan shouting and get things done. We’re ready for it.”
However, such celebrity endorsements don't always work in a candidate's favour. In the 2016 Presidential election, Hillary Clinton was publicly endorsed by Bruce Springsteen in Pennsylvania, Jennifer Lopez in Florida, and Jay-Z and Beyoncé in Ohio... yet all three states went to Trump.
