A huge majority of students have voted to impeach the current president, Katie Ascough.
A case was made to impeach the President of the UCD Students' Union, Katie Ascough, after she made a decision to remove abortion data from the Union's information booklet for Freshers.
Three out of five UCDSU officers came out against Katie Ascough and campaigned for her impeachment.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Campaigns and Communications Officer Barry Murphy said the case to impeach Ms Ascough “is because she has repeatedly gone against a strong mandate our union holds (a vote by the student body) to fight to repeal the Eighth Amendment.”
“This is not a bullying campaign. To use that word here is disheartening to those who are actually bullied. This is not because Katie is pro-life. It’s because of a series of actions where she has allowed her personal beliefs to affect her role."

A petition, which gained over 1,200 signatures, led to an impeachment referendum being triggered. Students voted across campus throughout today and yesterday.
The final result indicated that as many as 3,300 students voted to impeach Katie Ascough, against 1,300 who wanted her to remain as President.
More as we get it.
