The fourth and final in the Have A Good One series of videos curated by Hot Press, in association with the To Be Irish initiative and the Department of Foreign Affairs, sees Universal Music Ireland artist Aimée perform 'What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?' – a seasonal song made famous by the great Ella Fitzgerald.
Hot Press has announced the release of the video of fast-rising pop star Aimée performing her take on 'What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?' as part of the To Be Irish at Christmas initiative.
Aimée's gorgeous performance is the final in the series of four, which Hot Press has titled Have A Good One. The series kicked off last week with Wallis Bird’s lovely, pyjama-clad performance of her original song ‘I Don’t Mind Christmas Time’, followed by Lea Heart's beautiful 'You Make It Feel Like Christmas’ and Fia Moon's tastefully funky rendition of classic choral song 'Silent Night'. The four intimate performances aim to capture the spirit of what it means To Be Irish at Christmas.
'What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?' was penned Frank Loesser back in 1947, before being recorded by Margaret Whiting that same year. It first charted for The Orioles, peaking at No. 9 on Billboard's Best-Selling Retail Rhythm & Blues chart in December 1949. The likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Norah Jones and Kacey Musgraves have covered the decades-old Christmas song, with feted Universal Music Ireland pop act Aimée now adding her unique touch to the song.
Last year's debut edition of To Be Irish, curated by the Department of Foreign Affairs, was an instant success, bringing families together virtually with loved ones – and offering cherished cultural reminders when those who were abroad needed it most. 2021's version is now up and running, with an exhilarating line-up of hybrid and in-person events being planned.
The uniquely Irish sense of song as a form of togetherness is precisely what we want to celebrate in Have A Good One. So make sure to check out these four brilliant videos by Irish women, as they convey the feelings of love and solidarity that we all hope for at this time of year.

Aimée has had a whirlwind two years since releasing her debut EP Confessions. Raised on a strict diet of pop music, with an unwavering devotion to '90s goddesses Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, Aimée taught herself how to sing by listening to her idols. The Dublin native has released numerous solo hits since bursting onto the music scene in 2018 – including ‘Naked’, ‘Don’t Call Me Pretty’ and her viral song ‘Bulletproof’.
Her latest single ‘just a phase’ was released in October, and saw Aimée collaborate with Swedish songwriter Nick Jarl to create a catchy, '90s/'00s inspired pop anthem. Having joined Irish Women in Harmony during the pandemic, Aimée also helped raise almost a quarter of a million euro for SAFE Ireland with their cover of 'Dreams' by The Cranberries. Catch the 26-year-old performing live on tour next year, with shows slated to take place in Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Cork.
