It’s been two and a half decades since Damon Gough released his first EP under the Badly Drawn Boy moniker and since then he’s experienced all the highs and lows the music business could throw his way. Between songs on this intimate acoustic set Gough elaborated with a wry, self-deprecating wit on how his initial mission of being solely a “bedroom act” changed after his first few live outings and the foundation of the Twisted Nerve label with cohort Andy Votel. Since then his songs have made their way onto movie soundtracks and tv adverts for white goods & even the Catholic Church and those very songs (‘Something to Talk About’, ‘Time of Times’ and ‘All Possibilities’) are delivered with style and gusto. Adding ‘The Shining’ and ‘Once Around The Block’ (both from his Mercury Prize winning debut) goes to prove that this silver jubilee was definitely worth celebrating.
