Hot Press has partnered with Lyons Tea and Pieta House to broaden the conversation around mental health. In addition to our 'Now We're Talking' supplement, we have recorded a series of special videos on the theme. Our second video features the hugely successful rock band The Blizzards, performing "Running Man', from their acclaimed brand new album The Last Great Algorithm.
In our second video as part of the 'Now We're Talking' 2019 campaign, The Blizzards perform their new song 'Running Man' and talk about their experiences in relation to mental health.
Speaking in the video, the band's lead singer Niall Breslin aka Bressie – a long-time campaigner on the issue – makes a telling point. "Tell me one person on planet earth who's never suffered," he says. "We lose people we love, we go through tough times, we have ups and downs, that's just part of being human. But when we start running from our problems, that's when they start doing damage to us. That's when things like shame become a problem.
"What has happened in Irish society is that we've become uncomfortable with other people's pain. So people have to force themselves to medicalise, to drink, to engage in obsessive behaviour."
The band's bassist Louize Carroll, a psychotherapist as well as a musician and composer, also speaks powerfully about mental health.
The videos are shot by Hot Press and are part of the 'Now We're Talking' mental health campaign, being run in partnership with Lyons Tea and Pieta House – the suicide and self-harm crisis charity. The campaign aims to take the conversation around mental health in Ireland on to the next level. Lyons Tea is a major supporter of the work of Pieta House. "The reality is that without businesses like Lyons Tea we wouldn't be opening our doors," Elaine Austin, CEO of Pieta House told Hot Press.
