It was crowded at Virgin Media Park last night as Neil Finn and the gang were in the House. It was new kids on the block vs rock and roll legends as young Irish band opened proceedings and the trio of Robbie Cunningham, Oisin Mc Caffrey, and Ross Mc Nerney, a 3-piece ensemble of songwriters hailing from the midlands and west of Ireland. Currently printed on their band t-shirt is the phrase "Throw the trout out to catch the salmon". Well the trio must be pinching themselves as they played their biggest stage to date. Now to the first of the rock legends... The Waterboys, yes Mr. Mike Scott was back in Cork city just twelve months after his last visit, and boy did he put on a show. Accompanied by Aongus Ralston (bass), James Hallawell (keyboards), Eamon Ferris (drums), and of course Brother Paul Brown (keyboards, backing vocals). They kicked off with 'Where The Action Is' and ramped it up from there with Scott's melodic voice echoing across the city. The scene was perfectly set when the main attraction Crowded House came on stage. It was as if being back in the 80s and 90s in the evening summer sun.
