First new thing we got on our hands was the gorgeous water bottle that the festival is offering as a final alternative to plastic bottles to encourage Picnickers to think sustainably. With that in our bags, we headed to the brand new site Freetown, where we found a wood and fire area with a Cajun bayou located beyond Salty Dog and Trenchtown called Spike Island, and Providencia, a colourful town with Brazilian barbershops, Mexican tequilerías and Argentine barbecue.

Another venue that will attract all those who are looking for clandestine and intimate shows is The Cabaret, where The Dirty Circus will be headlining the tent all weekend. But if you’re looking for some funnily fun, you must visit the Who Let The Dads Out caravans, where all types of daddy-friendly rock & roll activities will take place: from One-Handed Stroller Race to air guitar and IKEA flat-pack time challenges.

Comfort was found at the The AIB Tap House, the headquarters of the contactless payment at Electric Picnic. With your bank card you’ll be able to enter this chill area, relax on the day beds, play games like a Giant Jenga or Limbo, and get a one cent ice-cream.

The Main Stage was a compulsory stop with raising pop star Aimée singing some tunes and announcing that she’ll be performing at the Electric Arena on Saturday at 2:15pm. Festival Director Melvin Benn also joined the gathering to talk about the line-up and the weather forecast for this weekend, “rain or shine, it doesn’t really matter, the festival is going to be great”. Benn also pointed that the reason behind the decision of moving the Salty Dog stage to the main arena was to welcome and locate new area Freetown.

For the final leg of the tour, we were up for a treat at The Banquet, where Niamh Farrell from Hand Sandwich and a string band welcomed us at a lunch curated by Tesco, Michelin Star Chef Derry Clarke and Mark Moriarty of the Michelin starred Greenhouse restaurant. We can say that the five course 120€ menu is worth every penny, especially considering that all funds raised go straight to Pieta House and Temple St Children’s hospital.
