The 18-year-old singer-songwriter and Dublin native now has a stunning video treatment to accompany his latest single.
Hot Press is proud today to premiere Martin McDonnell's music video for his latest single, "Like You Did Something Wrong," which hit streaming services this past August. Directed by Robert Montgomery—the director behind recent videos for Versatile, RUNAH and Moylan—McDonnell's film finds the fresh-faced musician tumbling through an impressive array of set pieces, assuming the roles of a mime, billiards player and boxer, among other professions. The surreal video connects these sequences with cleverly edited transitions, constructing a full universe around McDonnell's anthemic tune. Produced by Picture Mode, the film additionally features cinematography and VFX from Paul G. Lucaci.
Though McDonnell is only 18, his output thus far belies his years. "Like You Did Something Wrong," produced with the help of David Virgin, Rohan Healy and Al Quiff at Dublin's Beardfire Studio, showcases maturity in spades, especially in terms of songwriting ability. McDonnell's acting, too, proves impressive. He only began writing music last year after busking on the streets of Dublin, but his versatility is sure to take him far.
