From psychobilly Kenny Rogers covers and stadium rockers without a stadium to poodle perm metallers and glam punk brats, all forms of musical life are here!
Hot Press had no idea of the tsunami we were unleashing when in 2017 we dashed off a list of the Fifteen '80s Irish Bands That Should Have Been Massive, but for various reasons - record company, manager, unsympathetic media, intra-band punch-ups etc. etc. - never got to throw a TV from the top floor of the Chateau Marmont.
Volume 1 quickly gave way to Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 as you told us what eejits we were for omitting (insert your favourite '80s underachievers here) and generally not knowing our arses from our proverbials.
We thought that was that but, no, over the Easter Bank Holiday our trip down Irish rock 'n' roll memory lane started trending again on hotpress.com with loads of you taking to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to tell us afresh that we should have included the band that you had Magic Marker-ed on your pencil-case.
Stevie P from Belfast sent us a veritable love letter extolling the virtues of The Defects, the local punk heroes heralded as the new Clash in 1982 by Melody Maker, but who blew their street cred with a misguided cover of Elvis' 'Suspicious Minds'. It's things like that which can make or break careers.
So, taking that all into consideration, here's a brand new Vol. 4 with a further sequel entirely possible. We also have the '90s and '00s in our sights so keep those suggestions coming.
N.B We've included Cuddly Toys and Fastway because both of their lead singers were Irish and The Atrix for a second time because of the sheer volume of messages mentioning them. Enjoy!
