This morning, indie four-piece Gypsies on the Autobahn dropped a new single and accompanying music video, 'Rubicon'. Taken from their critically-acclaimed second album, Suspended which was released over the summer, Gypsies on the Autobahn are now releasing their third single from the album, along with a thought-provoking video written and directed by frontman James Smith.

The release coincides with their biggest headline show to date on 15 November at The Button Factory in Dublin.

GOTA is comprised of brothers James and Dan Smith, vocalist and drummer respectively, guitarist Niall Mooney, and bass player Gary Quinn.

'Rubicon' was actually born of an inner-band conflict between Niall and James, explain the band.

"In the lead-up to writing 'Rubicon', Niall and James had come to blows and were not speaking to each other. Eventually Niall came in with this bass line, which was what broke the silence between them. Working in close proximity with each other for so long there is ultimately going to be conflict; luckily this conflict gave us 'Rubicon'".

It was the rising tensions that cultivated an environment of candour and allowed the conception of the song. In fact, that theme runs throughout the album, explained James. His writing process evolved throughout the creation of the record to become a more introspective search for personal hope.

The result is a more mature sound and a central theme of hope born from moments of struggle, sprinkled throughout the album, Suspended.

Those concepts certainly come through in the album, affirms Hot Press's Edwin McFee. "Based around a central theme of hope born from moments of struggle, it’s a more assured beast than its predecessor, brimming with confidence and class," he writes in his review of the album.

The accompanying music video was shot and edited by Oliver Kelly and Alex Lynch and stars Laura Brady and Tadhg O’Rourke.

"The video is about two people who can’t talk, moving between reality and the other side," explain the band. "It's a dark and surreal look at relationships and conflict."
