Idles' new music video is not just disturbing animation but a social commentary on gender roles in society
In their new music video for 'Never Fight A Man With A Perm' from their latest album Joy as an Act of Resistance., Idles tackle the issue of toxic masculinity.
The music video is constructed like a video game with lead singer Joe Talbot serving as the protagonist who has to fight against various opponents. The animation is disturbing, but the underlying message and the social criticism are ever so apparent: Idles distance themselves from the stereotypical masculinity created by society and the media.

The whole concept underlines the message of the song as Fluffer Records, the team behind the video, explain: "The idea for the 'Never Fight A Man With A Perm' video came directly from the lyrics of the song and how it tackles the subject of toxic masculinity. Using a British take on the classic arcade beat 'em up platform game seemed like a cool way to put this across visually."
Idles delivered a powerful performance at Iveagh Gardens just a couple of days ago. Their political views are also on display in their newest single 'Mercedes Marxist'.
