The Theatre Royal Waterford celebrated 240 years of live performance on The Mall with a one-night-only gala concert with songs, stories, and plenty of craic on Sunday night. Curated by Jamie Beamish and Wayne Brown, and hosted by Jamie, ‘Live at The Royal’ featured a host of Waterford’s best-known stars of music and theatre who have trodden the boards at the Theatre Royal down the years, some of whom have gone on to become stars of stage and screen. This journey down memory lane, interwoven with stories of legendary evenings on the historic stage, paid tribute to Waterford's theatre legends and recalled classic moments in the annals of live performances at the Theatre Royal, such as the Tops of the Town and the local musical society heyday of the 80s & 90s. The show also featured a very passionate speech from Mary Boland the current Theatre Director about tougher times when the doors were lucky to be kept open, how dedicated everyone is who works there, and how revered the Theatre Royal is throughout the Country and beyond.
