Garter Lane Arts Centre Waterford continued its summer Courtyard Sounds gigs on Friday evening with special guest Paddy Dennehy. The Limerick singer/songwriter released his debut album ‘Little Light’ in 2020 and gave an outstanding display with his soaring voice on full volume. Currently based in Cork, Paddy opened the evening with a song called ‘Heaven’ and then the title track from his second album released earlier this year ‘Love and Be Brave’. Dipping into both albums his set included ‘Mothers Favourite Song’,’ Little Light’,’ Love is a Newborn Thing’, and ‘Snow Song’.
After the gig, Paddy said, “This is so amazing. To have a gig like this that’s free in such a venue as the Garter Lane Arts Centre is unbelievable. I love to bring my songs to a live audience. I take songwriting very seriously and I take the songs very seriously and showcasing them is great. I love the interaction with the crowd. I love a bit of levity between the songs, it gives me the opportunity to talk about the songs and have a bit of banter with the crowd.”

There was a wide age group in attendance that evening and Paddy picked up on this afterwards, “The gig was such a great experience and it’s so nice seeing kids there, it's important to get them in early, they learn how to behave at a gig. They grow up with that knowledge and it’s a natural thing." Finishing, Paddy said, "I want to thank the crew, you couldn’t wish to work with a nicer bunch of people. When we were doing our sound check, Anthony, Lippy and Phillip went above and beyond to get every detail perfect."
