We're delighted to bring you the first listen to/look at 'Your Heart Is Your Home', the new tune from KOBARA, which is an acronym for Keith O'Brien & Related Artists.
The flagship track from the Five Lovely Poisons EP that follows on June 5, it finds the Kilkenny singer and producer collaborating with guitarist Davy Holden and dispensing some sage-like advice.
“If you have demons in your heart your life is not going so well, but you should try and treat your mind and your heart like you would a home," Keith says. "You keep the bad stuff out. It’s better to clear out the house, clear out the heart, and move on.”
Amen to that. The video was shot on a Samsung s9 Smartphone with a DJI steadycam, which look to be excellent bits of kit.
“I was with my friends and we were talking about mobile phones and, after looking at the camera quality, we realised that mobile cameras are vastly under-appreciated as a film-making tool," he resumes. "We decided to shoot the video with the phone as a way of showcasing what’s possible with the most basic equipment and some imagination."
As for the intriguing EP title, Keith explains: "Each track deals with something I was struggling with at that time. I refer to each as a ‘Lovely Poison’ because when you’re in it, you relish it and it’s awesome, but those exact same things can be having a very negative impact on your life.”
Prior to his latest project, Keith played with Comhaltas Éirinn; co-founded trad outfit Seo Linn; and turned it up to '11' with various Kilkenny punk bands. He might be many things, but musically blinkered is not one of them!
