Premiere: Shelley Bukspan shares new video for 'Blues'
The track is taken from Bukspan's forthcoming album 'The Bronx Age'.
Hot Press are proud to premiere 'Blues', the chaotic yet beautiful new video for Shelley Bukspan's 'Blues'.
The song plays with the idea of surrender. During the writing process, Bukspan was ruminating on the conflict one often feels at the start of a relationship. "I wrote it when I'd just fallen in love. Usually you associate falling in love with feeling giddy and happy...for me, it always felt like a little bit of a death sentence," Bukspan told Louise Mc Namara and Emily Jane on the 'Through The Lens With' podcast. "It's that balance of merging with somebody else but [keeping] your own individuality and personal life."
The Dublin-based singer-songwriter teamed up with dancer and chemical engineer Lauriane Ctalayud to create a narrative for the music video that would take the song's conflict one step further. 'Blues' reaches its frenetic crescendo at the height of its central character's worry. A woman wanders aimlessly through the forest, conflicted about the news of her pregnancy – she ultimately surrenders to the joy and peacefulness of delivering new life.
Shelley Bukspan's upcoming album The Bronx Age is due out in Spring, and it is promising to be a real genre-blend, experimenting with sounds from gospel to soul.
