No one knew Rory Gallagher better than his brother and manager, Dónal Gallagher. For the first time, on the 25th Anniversary of his death, we show the video of an interview done by Sheena Crowley, of Crowley Music, that covers all aspects of Rory’s life and work...
In 2018, the Rory Gallagher Music Library in Cork celebrated its 40th Anniversary. Among the events organised to mark the occasion was a public interview with Dónal Gallagher – Rory’s brother and manager – conducted by Sheena Crowley, whose family ran the shop where Rory bought the Fender Stratocaster that ultimately became one of the most famous instruments in the world.
The interview was shot on video by Colm Walsh of Clap Media. It has never been seen before except by those in attendance on the day. Today, we are giving the interview what is in effect its world premiere – by special permission of Cork City Libraries and Crowley Music, and with thanks to Clap Media. It is a wonderfully wide-ranging interview which delivers remarkable insights into Rory Gallagher’s work, as well as other aspects of his life – as well as what has been happening in recent years – including the issuing of a Rory Gallagher coin by the Central Bank, the reissuing of Rory’s catalogue, the admiration of other musicians – and lots more besides.
Sit back and enjoy what is a marvellous trip down memory lane – and a fine tribute to a master musician...
