Last night, Sorcha Richardson and supporting act Conor Adams of All Tvvins, sold out Whelan's for an indie, garage-pop show, complete with stunning vocals. Audience members gathered around the stage, Guinness in hand, swaying as Conor Adams began the night with soulful indie ballads, circulating between his piano, guitar and track looper. Conor Adams performance set up an atmosphere, continued throughout the night by Sorcha Richardson as well, for a show so intimate it felt like a giant house show. As Sorcha Richardson and her band began their set, she admits that, out of nervousness "everyone put gin in their water bottles" before coming on stage.
We were blessed with Sorcha's chilling vocals and songs from her earlier discography as well as her recently released album First Prize Bravery (released November 8th). Hearing an array of music from different points in her life and music career reveal how well Sorcha bends and transcends the constructs of music genre, having pop-y and at the same time punk elements, giving both "Sad Girl" and "I'm too cool for you" energy. Near the end of her set, she invites Conor Adams back to the stage to perform No One Is Any Fun reimagined. Sorcha's performance was stunning, in the most literal sense of the word.
