Hot Press has partnered with Lyons Tea and Pieta House to broaden the conversation around mental health. In addition to our 'Now We're Talking' supplement, we have recorded a series of special videos on the theme. Our third video features grit-pop duo Thanks Brother, performing their song 'We Are Different'.
In the third video as part of the 'Now We're Talking' 2019 campaign, Thanks Brother have offered up a unique rendition of their song 'We Are Different'. They also talk to us about their experiences in relation to mental health.
Speaking about how music can be an outlet for mental health, Roisin O - one half of Thanks Brother - says, "I think writing in general is hugely cathartic. Just having one line that means something to you in a moment. 'We are different and it's OK to be different, and we're going to take our differences and make some positive changes' - it's important because the world can be really hard."
"Music is a release," says her musical partner John Broe, "people listen to these songs and realise other people feel the same way as they do."
The videos are shot by Hot Press and are part of the 'Now We're Talking' mental health campaign, being run in partnership with Lyons Tea and Pieta House – the suicide and self-harm crisis charity. The campaign aims to take the conversation around mental health in Ireland on to the next level. Lyons Tea is a major supporter of the work of Pieta House. "The reality is that without businesses like Lyons Tea we wouldn't be opening our doors," Elaine Austin, CEO of Pieta House told Hot Press.
