We're loving this first look at The Racer, Kieron J. Walsh's Irish cycling drama, which rewinds to the summer of 1998 when the opening stages of Le Tour de France were held in Ireland. Walsh cut his teeth on such successful TV series as The Savage Eye, Raw and Finding Joy, and 2017's excellent Anjelica Huston On James Joyce: A Shout In The Street documentary.
Having originally been due to screen at the SXSW Film Festival in March, it will now premiere at next week’s online Cannes Marché. The movie has already been snapped up by Gravitas Ventures for American cinema release in the autumn. The cast includes Louis Talpe, Matteo Simoni, Tara Lee, Iain Glen, and Karel Roden.
The Dublin production company behind it is Blinder Films who've enjoyed present and past success with the likes of Extra Ordinary, Vita & Virginia, Grace Jones: Bloodlight & Bami and The Queen Of Ireland. It's also given us the perfect excuse to dig out a Kraftwerk classic...
