Ahead of his Whelan's tribute gig, with Something Happens, Pugwash and more honouring the great man...
Almost three months on from the sad passing of influential journalist George Byrne and we're still coming to terms with the fact that big personality is no longer with us.
Tomorrow evening, Friday June 26, a Memorial Concert takes place in Whelan's.
'Celebrating George' boasts a star-studded line-up, showing the esteem in which he was held. Playing on the night will be: Something Happens, Paul Cleary of The Blades, Pugwash, Trouble Pilgrims, Dermot Lambert of Blink, The Drays (Stephen Ryan's new band) and plenty of special guests.
It's a night George himself would have loved. Tickets are 20 quid, with proceeds going to a local Liberties charity, and are available at [link]whelanslive.com[/link] and at box office.
Before that, we've put together a tribute to the great man himself, bringing together old photos, audio of George in full conversational flight with Tom Dunne and music from his beloved Go-Betweens soundtracking kind words from his colleagues and friends.
Check it out and we'll see you at the gig...
