Maykay and Pockets called in to the Hot Press Speakeasy over the weekend to say hello...
Known for their fun, loud, unique and no-holds-barred music, Fight Like Apes proved that they’re no different on a couch than they are on a stage when they called into the Hot Press Speakeasy at Forbidden Fruit or a natter with Roe McDermott.
The band’s trademark candour, good cheer and disarming honesty were on full display, with Maykay and Jamie frankly addressing the reasons for - and controversy surrounding – their recent fund:it campaign. The pair brought a dose of realism to all those who assume music-making is a glamorous, riches-fuelled enterprise, speaking out about many musicians’ need for a reliable day-job; why they parted (amicably) from their label; and the huge and necessary role social networking plays in the Irish music scene. We also learned about Maykay’s love of spreadsheets, and witnessed what happens when a cheeky heckler tries to take on the formidable frontwoman. No prizes for guessing who wins that round… check it out below!
